Coming to the end of knowledge is like trying to move water from one one ocean to another.
Imagine this, a rich person who owns 99% (a little bit exaggeration) of every little things that this world has ever invented, finally decided that he wants to own a river of his own.
He makes a long 15 feet deep channel next to his lovely mansion going accross the village. Then, he hires 100 manpower to each carry two water jugs on both hands, and to fill them up with water from the nearby river, and transfer the water to his self-made channel.
After 1 year, then finally he has his own river. He fires all the manpower. Then he gives the river a name after his, Bob's river (just an example).
A few months after, Bob starts to see that his river is not as full as before, it has shrunken 10%. He hires 25 manpower to help him, fill his river with water back to the top.
Bob starts to notice how every month he has to hire manpower to fill his river.
He asks himself a question, "How come the other river whose owned by no one, always looks full. He remembers also, that when his 100 manpower took the water from it, it doesn't seem to decrease."
"Is someone stealing water from my river?" Bob asks himself.
You may think that this illustration is too farfetched for peopel who is living in this day and age. However, take somebody you know who is as rich as Bob as an example and have the same attitude as his.
Well, if you're honest enough, usually it takes only a couple of seconds to find a person who matches with the criteria. All of us have Bob in ourselves. Some people may not have the adult Bob, but only the young Bob. Some people have a dead Bob, meaning that you once have "Bob" attitude but it's gone now, after you learned that your river can never be full all the time.
What is a "Bob" attitude?
A "Bob" attitude is an attitude which is never satisfied, always wanting more and never appreciate what he/she already has.
You might ask, "Well isn't that a good thing? Our world is fully advanced right now, because people are striving hard. Just see the third world countries, who is living in poverty line. Their countries are like that, because the people are just lazy."
Well, that's a "Bob" speaking.
A "Bob" thinks that he can have everything he wanted as long as he worked hard. Bob ignores the fact that there is a thing called "rain process" that can absorb water or to fill a surface with water creating a river.
A "Bob" thinks that people are rich because they work hard, or because some one hits a lottery jackpot. Bob ignores the fact that there is a thing called "civilization" that can build and give knowledge or norm creating a culture.
A "Jack" would think differently. He would think that a person can be poor because he was raised in a very violent, uneducated family. A person may be poor at one time, but he's not going to be poor for the rest of his life. He is like one of the manpower hired by Bob. He is working hard, carrying water from one river to another, just like he was told to do. And he did it for one year loyally.
As it was mentioned earlier, you might be a "Bob" and now is no longer a "Bob". So, it is true with a "Bob" as it is with "Jack", they can change overtime.
Let us finish the story.
A Jack comes to Bob's house and says, "I apologize in advance if there are any words that you will hear that you may not like or disagree with, but I have something to tell you that can solve your problem."
Bob says, "Go ahead."
Jack explained to him about the "rain process" how it is a natural occurence that have made his river not full, and the other river full. Jack also told Bob that actually there is someone who owns the other river, and have the rightfull ownership of Bob's river eventhough he may have it in a contract as Bob's.
Jack explained to Bob, if Bob created an irrigation system, connecting his river with the other river, Bob will never have to fill up his water again. By doing this, Bob can also help the village to grow a better crops, and surely, Bob will be invited to enjoy the harvest with the people in the village.
The story can go in any other way. Bob can say that he doesn't care if he has to fill up his water every month, as long as he can call it his. Or a Jack can choose to work as a "water carrier" for the rest of his life. In some countries, we can see this is the case or road that the people had chosen to walk.
It is a "river of life", it will always dry up if it is not connected to the main source. People can choose to stuff their river with many different knowledge, technologies, material things, money, other people's belonging. One day, your river will start to produce a bad smell. And people might think that your river is a junk yard, so they start to throw junks in them too.
You can be a "Jack" or a "Bob", it doesn't matter. Can you see that the water that you bring over to Bob's river every month is the same water that you have brought in a month ago?
You can name your river "Bob" or "Jack", it also doesn't matter. Admitting that your river is not rightfully yours, that you only own it temporarily. Admitting that "rain process" will still occur in life, eventhough, you decide for yourself to have your own river. Admitting that it doesn't matter whether you are a "Bob" or a "Jack", you are just like a river, or that you are just a name.
Someone actually owns you. And that you need to be connected to a river that will always fill you with water that can water the whole village.

Reason to live.
Imagine two out of three times you rolled a die, you get sixes.
Imagine two out of three times you rolled a die, you get ones.
Who determine who gets what and who won the game, if it's not the dealer.
To some, life is just a game of dice. To others, life is a matter how good you are in playing the game of dice.
Well, maybe not a dice game; maybe more like a "Monopoly" game.
To those who are not familiar with "Monopoly", let me give you a brief true statements you will hear when you play the game: You get to build houses, if you landed on three same color-lots, you go to jail if you rolled a ten after "free parking." Ask your "friend" if they want to trade their lots with yours, so you can start building your hotels. Sometimes, you get birthday gifts from all the players, but sometimes you have to pay taxes on your houses.
Does it sound familiar?
Not really, You say? Hmmm, let us try a different illustration.
For those who like winning battles with strategies and not by mere chance, we have for you the game of "Chess."
It's a very old game I would say even older than "Monopoly."
A game of chess can last as brief as seconds or as long as forever. (If both sides are thinking too long, or they don't know how to play the game)
These two games are not bad at all if your brain needs an exercise or just some fun time. Don't give up easily though if you lost many times in the beginning. It's like everything else, you need to practice.
Anyway, it doesn't matter which game you choose to play, there is one thing these games have in common.
Well, it's "You" the player.
Player means one who is playing. If you said, "Wait, but I've never agreed to play the game, why do I have to play it?" Well, your parents have volunteered you :)
The game will still go on, even if you don't make a move. Draw a picture for yourself in your mind, a courtyard full of people playing monopoly or chess or game of dice. And compare it with this picture, people in wall street shouting numbers, contractors sawing woods, cars moving back and forth. And add this one other picture, a person sleeping in his couch while his TV is still on, and someday, a person knocks the door into that sleeping "beauty" or "beast" apartment asking for rent or electricity bill.
Let us take a look at a different scenario. In this scenario, cars are still moving (I don't know how to make them stop, like technology it's moving too fast :)) The same wall street guy who was shouting last time, is still shouting but louder. Something else happened in this scenario. The wall street guy has a sick baby at home. He can't stop his work to take care of his baby, because he thinks that if he makes more money, then he can send his baby to a good hospital and everything will turn back to normal. And lastly, the sleeping "beauty" or "beast" is still sleeping. However, his apartment is located in Midtown Manhattan, bought with money from winning a lottery.
Again, these two different scenarios have one common thing, "You." So, is our life a mix of game of chess and dice? Is it a mix between strategies and chances?
I was taught if I didn't know how to operate a machine, I had to read the manual, or if I were lucky enough, somebody would explain it to me.
So, has anybody created the manual for this mixed game of chess and dice? I mean, Isn't this is the goal of creating a game, besides to relax, but to win the game.
Some say, it is a philosophy or science book. Some say, it is whatever my grand-grand-grand parents say. Some say, you get it by instinct. Some say, it is the bible.
Well, there can be only one manual if we're playing the same game right?
I guess we all need a manual, or someone, or something that can explain to me, if my neigbors are my enemies, or where do I go when I die, or as simply as why didn't I get the promotion last week, and should I cry or be happy.
To conclude, isn't the reason to live is to win. To win the battle. To win the game. To play the game according to the rule. However, what does it mean to win. Does it mean to beat up the other player so you can get their money? Does that define "to win"? or does it mean to think that life is not just a game, and that it is a life to live.
"Live your life through a living life and for an everlasting life."

Travelling with a small bag
Have you ever been asked by someone this, "If you have a "small bag", what would you put in it?"
Or to put it in different words, "What do most people carry on their wallet or purse daily?"
Some bring tissue during the winter time, preparing themselves for cold. Some bring their mirror, reminding themselves of themselves. Some bring a discounted cards or coupons to buy groceries.
I am not talking about the non-personal, regular items that people have to carry just because they have to, for example, transit card, driver's license, credit card, school ID.
I am one of the victims, guilty as charged for carrying every business cards I get from people with me. You should see the size of my wallet, it had ripped my pants apart.
Here are advices given by some wise men, "You should bring your an IOE card - In Case of Emergency card that says what people should do when they find them in state of emergency. "Call my dad in this number!", "Dial 911, use the phone nearby, don't worry it's free!" "Get a cab, bring me to the nearest hospital, just write me your address where you would like me to write the check for the cab, and Thanks!"
So, right now we have two must-have items on us, your everyday non-personal but necessary item, and your IOE card. What about my two hundred other things that I usually carry on my wallet or purse?
Let's try to narrow it down one by one.

How to organize your Outlook life?
There are many methods available in organizing your Outlook file. You can buy books about it, or go search online for any newsletter, or attend a training class (Productivity Pro for example), but I'm going to share with you what I have learned so far.
Many people think that they already have an organized-lifestyle. But take a minute or two right now and look at your bedroom at home, or your desk at work, or your kitchen, the lists can go on forever.
Maybe the first thing that will come up in your mind is, "Oh, it's a little bit messy, but I'll clean it later on." or "Well, person so-and-so suppose to clean that."
A lot of people think that desk, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom in their houses don't belong to them. Young people says that it's their parents. Parents say that they have assigned it to their children. So, where does this end? No one seems to take ownership. But, guess what, anything that you encounter on your everyday waking life is a part of you. It is yours!
Maybe, you're still not convinced yet.
What about life? Is this something that a lot of people don't take ownership on? It is true for some people. They feel that their life are hopeless; everything seems to go wrong; spouses don't love them the same way; work gives them too much headache. You understand my point. And what are some of the solutions they came up with. Drugs, Someone's spouse, Alcohol, Gambling, Television, Fighting, all can be summed up in two words"Running Away."
Who will take care of your life, if it's not Yourself. Will You?
Now, as we have decided just a minute ago to start taking care of ourselves and things that we encounter everyday, let's see what we can do.
At my job, I organize my Outlook file by Week, Month, Quarter, and Year. These folders are set aside under my Inbox. As I begin to get emails, I started to make decisions: whether the email is job-related related or just a junk mail (unrelated to your job). If I think it is related, then I drag it to my "Week 1" folder a subfolder of "Week", if it is not, then I leave it on my Inbox. So, next time I need to find an email I just go to the corresponding week which would take lesser time to search than my inbox. Now, they have what's called "Google Desktop Search" which could help a lot if you don't remember which week, your email is in.
All emails within that week should go to that week's folder. All next week emails should go to the subsequent week folder. I made 6 "Week" folders just in case there are six weeks in a month. At the beginning of next month, I just drag all emails I received last month to the corresponding month folder. For example, this past month is October, then I would just drag every emails in all my "Week" folder to "October" folder.
Now, my "Week" folder should be clean slate ready for November emails.
Then, you can just drag all four months worth of emails to a "Quarter" folder and to "Year" after the year is over. You can choose not to create the "Quarter" folder if you don't want to.
Ok, we're done about email. Now, let's see if we can apply this elsewhere.
Let's take kitchen as our example. In my apartment, I usually do the cleaning and my brother does the cooking. (It's just a different talent that God has given us :) and we are very content on our job)
That's what we do weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, I guess until he gets married and move to his own place. (He has to get marry first, since he's older :) )
However, there are days, where my brother had to come home very late at night. Does this mean, that I can't eat? Or, from my brother's example, if I went to a retreat for 3 days, does that mean no one is going to clean the dishes?
I guess my point here is that it's better to deal with what you have in front of you right then and there. And if you can't seem to do everything at the same time, create your own assistant. For example, the Outlook example mentioned earlier, or taking notes down and cross it out as you complete the tasks or copy it to the next note paper if you didn't finish it and add on the lists.
It sounds like the topic "Procrastinating" doesn't it? But, that's just a part of the bigger picture I will try to convey in a just a paragraph away.
Ok, now here we are, knowing that we need to take "ownership" and to be on top of our "responsibility". What is left is "expanding your ownership and responsibility."
"Email" and "Kitchen" is just two examples of things that we see everyday. What about your garden, your friends or neighbors, your cars? (Please don't say to your neighbor that you own them :) )
But before we can expand our ownership and responsibility, we have to know what we own and have to do at present.
Let me give you a simple illustration. If you live in America, you have to pay taxes. What if someone who came to America from a country who do get tribute from its citizen, does that person need to pay taxes once he become a citizen of America? Some people choose to own what they think or wish they own, like their rights in their old countries.
Let me ask you another question: do you "own" your brother, parents, or children if you have?
If you remember I said earlier that a lot of people do not take ownership of their life. Part of this "denial" or "irresponsibilities" can be attributed to their own decisions, while the other part goes to other people's decisions.
Draw a picture for yourself a group of people making decisions. Little circle represents each individuals. Then enclose three or four small circles with one large circle. Then enclose three or four big circles with one "venti" circle. (Coffee drinkers should know this term:) )
Take a few minutes to see the connection between this and the "Outlook" example. (Hint:Week, Month, Quarter, Year)
After that look at the "Kitchen" example (Hint:I wash dishes, my brother cooks)
I can see promotion knocking at your door once you understand and apply these two examples in your life :)
Let me ask you a question. Can you say,"No" to your boss at work. In other words, can you choose not to do the work your boss asked you without getting fired? (Or the company filing "Chapter 11" bankrucptcy for that matter) Read on and you will understand what I mean.
We have a job description at work, which gives us the "eye" to see what kind of things we have to look out for, to take ownership, or to do. That is why at work, we can know what emails to delete, which one to drag to "Week" folder, which one needs us to act upon, etc.
That is why we can't say, "No" to our boss, because he has given us our job description. We can say, "We don't understand" though, but after a while, your boss expects you to catch on.
As you can see, your "Eyes" will get used to your work. They will catch on things quickly. And if ceteris paribus - everything stays constant on an upward trend (no downsizing, economic crisis), most likely, your boss will promote you and give you a different set of "eye" to look after bigger things.
This is what I meant by "expanding your ownership and responsibility."
Well, what about our family, friends, or neighbors that don't clean up their junk emails. It is as a company losing profit as to a community losing its harmonious estate.
But this is not about telling people to clean up after themselves. It is about expanding our ownerships and responsibilities. It is about caring for things that people have left behind themselves, while constantly and gently reminding them that they have forgotten their belongings.
What can you say? Well, you can first say to them, "You know what, we are living under the same sky, it is yours and mine."
Or the next time around you can also say to them, "You know what, you told me last week that nobody loves you. I'd like to tell you that I care about you."
Or during a time of gathering, you invited him or her to dinner, and you can say to them, "You know what, you have amazing life ahead of you. It's not to late to start deleting your junk emails. Forget about what happened in the past it's all in the archive folders. You can start opening your email and then do the job well done. I know that sometimes you will say that you don't know how to do them, but that's why I am here for. Guess what, you are not fired yet, you are still alive. Let's work on it together."
To sum up: the answer to the question, "How to organize your Outlook life?" Are these: First, take "ownership". Claim your email, whether it's a junk email, whether it goes to Week1 or Week 2 folders. Second, be on top of your "responsibility". If I can do the job today, I'll do it, so that I can check it off. Third, "expand" your ownership and responsibility. This one translates to do the first, and second general rule of thumb consistently, then it will automatically come into place.
Make your decision! You can do it right now. Start deleting your junk emails, clean up your kitchen, do your homework.
